Snoozebox & tangerine win global design award for new portable hotel rooms

Innovative British hotel company Snoozebox bucks the trend of, ‘you snooze you lose’, winning a global design award for it’s portable hotel room concept designed by tangerine, at the Good Design Awards 2015.

On the 29th May,  tangerine CEO Martin Darbyshire took to the stage at the Good Design Awards Gala, held in Sydney, Australia, to pick up a coveted Good Design® Award Trophy. Snoozebox’s collaboration with tangerine was selected as the Overall Winner for Architectural Design.

As category winner, Snoozebox was just one of seven projects nominated for the coveted Good Design Award® of the Year! Other winners on the night included Tesla Motors from the US and Über – the taxi app.

The Judges commented: “This is an outstanding example of what good design can contribute to project. A whole new category of accommodation has been created resulting in a completely new business for where there will be a large demand. The Snoozebox Portable Hotel is well-thought out ergonomically with visually and impressive engineering considerations that delivers a unique product with terrific commercial opportunity.”

The Good Design Awards are one of the longest standing and most prestigious design awards in the world, promoting excellence in design and innovation since 1958. Snoozebox and tangerine were therefore thrilled that the new portable hotel rooms, which launched this summer at events, music festivals & sporting occasions across the UK and Europe, won not only a Good Design Award® for the Interior Design category, but also received wider acclaim, as the overall Architectural Design winner.

“Snoozebox is about bringing an innovative new concept to the hotel and events market. Putting our guests right at the heart of the action delivers the ultimate event experience. It has taken leadership in design and innovative thinking to execute on the concept and we are very proud that our new portable hotel rooms have received global recognition from Good Design,” says Lorcán Ó Murchú, CEO of Snoozebox.

For tangerine, Snoozebox represents the latest success in the agency’s mission to deliver ground-breaking innovation and design that makes consumers happy and businesses profitable. Matt Round, tangerine’s Creative Director who led the project says, “We have worked closely with Snoozebox to create a sophisticated and extraordinarily flexible room, which now positions Snoozebox with the opportunity to lead in their market with this new product.”

Dr. Brandon Gien, CEO of Good Design Australia who manages the annual Awards program said, “I’m very pleased that the Snoozebox Portable Hotel has received the Good Design Award® Best Architectural Design, it is a testament to the design brilliance that has brought this project to market.”

Success for Snoozebox and tangerine came from thinking big, whilst scaling small- applying attention to detail, without losing sight of the overall consumer experience.
